04.05.2022, Pristina

Kosovo Banking Association in cooperation with Visa is launching the awareness campaign “Preventing card fraud- Safeguard your bank card information”.

In today’s fast-paced digital world, there are great ways to use convenient digital payment services from online shopping to in-store purchases but new reality also imposed wealth of opportunities for individuals to try to employ new forms of payment fraud.  Therefore, it is of outmost importance to raise awareness about how to prevent fraud and scams. Raising awareness is key in fraud prevention because knowledge is the first line of defense.

Over the years many new types of scams have appeared including data breaches, online shopping scams, phishing scams, oversharing of information and social engineering scams. Although banks and card scheme providers provide a very advanced level of transaction security, it is important that card holders, respectively banking clients also take preventive measures against these fraud attempts. This topic is becoming crucial at this time because fraud and scams are on the rise and customers are vulnerable, therefore it is important to take preventive action in order to minimize damage and costs and to ensure that customers continue to take advantage of the convenience that card payments offer and most importantly that they continue to use their cards safely.

Therefore, KBA and company VISA in collaboration are launching the next campaign “Prevent fraud and scams: Safeguard your bank card information”.  Banking clients are encouraged to follow the campaign information under the hashtag #cardfraudprevention or #ParandalimiiMashtrimitmeKarta on KBA website and social media pages as well as their own banks page. You can expect to hear our message on main radio channels as well and in different public appearance activities and interviews.

Some tips for preventing card fraud are:

  • During payments do not use public and unsecured Wi-Fi connection
  • Always check the URL
  • Beware of email and phone scams
  • Never give out credit card information on social media.
  • Do not allow others to use your card.
  • Strengthen online passwords by using random combinations of letters, numbers, and special characters — ideally, one for each account.
  • Maintain the most recent versions of apps and anti-virus software

For more information on how to protect yourself from card fraud follow the hashtag #cardfraudprevention or #ParandalimiiMashtrimitmeKarta on social media, contact your bank or get more information at the website of the Kosovo Banking Association.
